Wednesday, 6th August 08 at 11:12 PM, I opened my emails and found an email from Orkut. I knew what was inside that email. And here is what they wrote:

“Hi. Your application has just been approved and should be listed in orkut’s directory within an hour, although it may take a bit longer to show in the ‘newest additions’ panel.”

I knew it’s time to keep awake. I informed the whole team and the excitement got doubled. We started monitoring our servers so that everything goes smoothly.

Here is the complete thrilling experience:

1. Application went live @ 11:15 PM on 6th Aug 08.
2. Within 1st minute of launch we had our first player from Brazil.
3. Within an hour we had 42 members playing 20+ games.
4. As it was midnight so only I and Rajesh were in the office. And we feel lucky to experience such a wonderful night.
5. Server was behaving perfectly and to our surprise 1 member was coming every minute.
6. We played lots of games with new members and got some great feedbacks.
7. We reached 100 members within 2 hours of the launch.
8. Got an email from Google to change few things and we were glad to know that Google gives importance to applications even after launch.
9. At about 6:15 AM (7 hours after launch) we had some 500 members and this night would never come again even after we launch many more applications like this.

This is just a small part of strategy we have developed. The main product is different and we are sure that we will be bringing much more users to the parent product.

So keep in touch and let’s bring some excitement in everybody’s life.

We have finally completed our first OpenSocial application and waiting for Orkut’s approval. The development time was about 1.5 months and the entire journey was very exciting. The name of the application is Chess 2.0 league and we have submitted it on Orkut. The strategy is to get maximum exposure as Orkut Apps is just 3 months old and people on Orkut find it interesting.

In the coming month we would be submitting this application to other OpenSocial containers like MySpace, Hi5 etc. The idea is to first test the load on the servers, gain expertise to handle social load and then scale accordingly.

Initially, we were not able to find an appropriate name for our application because the concept was not to let users play chess online but to let them compete online in open leagues, let them qualify for a league and show their skills to the entire world. So it was more than chess and so we decided to name it Chess 2.0 League. 2.0 make it next generation chess game with league denotes the concept behind the game.

Thanks to Google for providing a common platform for developing social applications.

So don’t forget to check the application on orkut and do send us a feedback at “contact [at] xtremeheights [dot] com”.

We will really appreciate your feedback.

We feel glad to have you here. XtremeHeights is a web 2.0 company, meaning we not only develop web 2.0 applications but also we are trying to create a web 2.0 environment internally with our employees as well as externally with our clients.

We want to make everything transparent. With this view we have started our Blog. The purpose of this blog is to place the problems and its solutions, which we have faced in designing an application. We have learned a lot from web and its time now to contribute to the internet fraternity.

Every week we would be posting series of articles based on our day to day learning.

Key benefits of this blog to our potential clients:
We have expertise in various domains. Our potential clients can read our articles, understand our philosophy behind every day to day activity and judge our skills & professionalism. This would help them in understanding us better and also help them in making better decisions.

Key benefits of this blog to developers:
We would be sharing our practical experiences which would help other developers in finding a solution to a similar problem faced by us.

Key benefits of this blog to starters:
We have a vision and every individual working at XtremeHeights is highly motivated. We have achieved this by sharing our thoughts and experiences with them. We want the same for people who are not a part of XtremeHeights.

We hope to see you here every week.

Best Wishes!
