Ajax … Develop Desktop like applications on Web.
What is Ajax?Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), is a web development technique for creating interactive web applications. The intent is to make web pages feel more responsive by exchanging small amounts of data with the server behind the scenes, so that the entire web page does not have to be reloaded each time the user requests a change. This is meant to increase the web page's interactivity, speed, and usability..Some of the best Ajax website: www.virtual-salon.com, www.pageflakes.com, www.digg.com, www.youtube.com, www.basecamp.com etc
User ExperienceAjax helps in creating rich user interfaces and helps in creating rich internet applications. Ability to change the portion of a web page without reloading the page increases speed of the application.
Common Ajax MythsAjax is a new technology and hence people have some myths about Ajax.
1) Ajax applications are not Search Engine Friendly: It is believed that Ajax applications are not search engine friendly. To an extend it is correct. It is not because the technology is not friendly but it is because the designer/coder did not do it correctly. You would be amazed to know that we can use Ajax to make more search engine friendly websites.
Ajax is Asynchronous JavaScript and XML and JavaScript is not a search engine friendly scripting language. We can use this concept to hide less important pages which we do not want search engine to crawl. E.g. you would not want to show your privacy policy taking up part of your main page’s page rank.
Now what about important pages? We can still use Ajax in a sensible manner so that search engine crawl the contents of the page. Ajax is a technology which changes a portion of a page without reloading the page. Now if the portion of the page changes dynamically than how search engines will change the contents themselves. They can only crawl a webpage but they can’t trigger events which changes contents created using JavaScript. Now suppose product details are created using Ajax which pops on same page without page reloading. Product’s detail page is an important page which we would surely want search engines to crawl. To do this you just create another page which reload a product details page and create two image maps. The bigger one will open product’s detail using Ajax and small one will just enable search engines to crawl product details page. E.g. click to see a working demo.
2) Back Button handling: Browser stores history of every webpage visited which is stored on every page reload. This creates a problem for Ajax applications because it does not reload the entire page but instead using XML to change the portion of a webpage. This can be taken care of by manually coding for back and forward button or using a already written framework like RSH.
XtremeHeight’s Expertise in AjaxAt XtremeHeights, we have developed many web applications using Ajax of various sizes. All these applications are user friendly, search engine friendly and technically high. We have developed Ajax applications for the following domains:- Retail: Retail industry is trying to leverage the power of web and trying to sell online. Forrester Research states that over 50% of online shoppers cancel their purchases using traditional shopping carts. To overcome this problem we have developed a solution where visitors don’t have to reload pages often wasting time in browsing the product. On clicking any product a pop up opens on the same page displaying product details with the ability to select quantity and properties of products like color, size etc. Click here to see it in action.
- High Technology: Today technology is moving very fast and there is a need for every individual to move forward with the same pace. To help industries we have developed some modern tools on Ajax Technology like Project Management Application, Appointment Management etc.
- Buying and Selling: There are lots of applications which facilitates buying and selling of products. We have used Ajax and developed an interface to enhance the user interface of such applications. Please click here to check our buying and selling portfolio.
- Racing clubs: We have developed Ajax based race event management application for racing clubs.
